Dr. Samuel Williams, Sr.

Word of Truth Ministries was the teaching ministry established by the late Rev. Dr. Samuel Williams, Sr. (1941-2003) of the Trinity Baptist Church, Oakland, CA. Dr. Williams grew up in the Baptist Church and, under the tutelage and nurture of his mother and father, he and his sisters were very active in the church as children. 

Dr. Williams completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California in Berkeley. As a young adult, Dr. Williams became a little disgruntled with the lack of clear answers to his questions about the Bible, a circumstance that eventually led him to leave the Baptist Church to “study” with the Jehovah’s Witnesses. He eventually became an elder in the organization and was a part of it for over eight years. Sent to seminary to study the doctrine of the Baptist Church in order to “recruit” more members out of the Baptist church for Kingdom Hall, Dr. Williams’ testimony was that while he was in school learning to trap Baptists because they were ignorant of the truth, the Holy Spirit instead revealed the truth to him. In a required Greek language study class, Dr. Williams began to see that the Bible was true and that what he had been taught and consequently was teaching and doing as a Jehovah’s Witness was error. In time, he soon realized that the New World Translation (the Bible the Witnesses use) was erroneously translated and it distorted the truth about the person and personage of Jesus Christ.

Dr. Williams’ mission, borne out of his “tenure” with the Witnesses, was to equip the people of God with the truth and give them a solid biblical foundation for their life in Christ. Word of Truth Ministries was the teaching arm established by Dr. Williams to share the Word of God with the people of God. Through the vision and direction of Dr. Williams, Word of Truth Ministries conducted seminars and workshops to help other churches and pastors in the following areas: Street Witnessing, Stewardship, Developing a Youth Ministry and Children’s Church, Church Ministry Development and Implementation, Marriage Conferences, Associate Minister Training Workshops and “A Woman’s Place”, Women’s Conference. 

Of all the conferences and workshops provided by Word of Truth Ministries, the most biblically enlightening was the one written and taught by Dr. Williams personally, “How to Witness to Jehovah’s Witnesses.” Dr. Williams was delighted to share this workshop with the Christian community, a study based on his biblical training and personal experiences with the cult. This lecture was a blessing to countless churches throughout the country. Dr. Williams would often emphatically say “The Witnesses have the wrong message but they do have the right methods, while the church has the right message but the wrong method; it is time for the church to stand up for the truth of who Jesus is and become the real witnesses Christ has called us to be!”

Pastor Parker is a proud son of the ministry of Dr. Williams and he often says “if the Lord had not allowed ‘the Old Man’ (Dr. Williams) in my life I would not be half the man, half the preacher nor half the pastor I am today.” 

Pastor Parker’s first lecture, “The Role of the Associate Minister in the Local Church” was written under the direction of Dr. Williams and it was one of the first lectures/workshops sponsored by Word of Truth Ministries.

It is with this commitment that the people of God be equipped with the truth of God’s Word that Pastor Parker continues the vision of Dr. Williams. With permission from Dr. Williams’ wife, Mrs. Donna Williams, Pastor Parker uses Word of Truth Ministries as the teaching arm of C.W. Parker Ministries, a continuing legacy left in him by the Rev. Dr. Samuel Williams, Sr.
